Description
The building is a school, incorporating a former schoolmaster's house and a retaining wall, dated 1861. It is constructed of coursed, squared, rock-faced limestone with sandstone dressings, featuring plain and fishscale tiled roofs and stone coped gables. There are two stone ridge stacks. The building follows an irregular V-plan, with a single-storey school wing to the west, a gabled cross wing, and a one-and-a-half-storey schoolmaster's house to the north. A gabled porch is located at the angle, topped by a wooden bell and clock turret with a steep pyramid roof.
The south elevation has five bays. A central projecting gabled bay includes a three-trefoiled light window with hoodmoulds, which extend down the sides to form a stringcourse. There are two bays on either side, divided by buttresses with two set-offs. Each bay contains a two-trefoiled light window with a similar hoodmould extending down to form a stringcourse. The north wing of the schoolmaster’s house has a lower roofline. The east elevation features a steeply gabled porch, flanked by casement windows, with a further window to the right, all with hoodmoulds and linked by a stringcourse. Two casement windows are positioned above in half dormers.
A stone retaining wall, surmounted by railings and with steps leading up to the porch at the angle, completes the composition.
