Description
Shaw House is a cottage dating from the 17th century, constructed from rubble limestone with sandstone dressings. It has a plain tile roof featuring three brick ridge stacks and stands at two storeys. The southeast elevation has an off-centre doorway with a wooden lintel and a 20th-century half-glazed door. To the left of the doorway is a partly blocked window with a chamfered stone surround, followed by a blocked doorway with a wooden lintel. To the right, there is a window with a similar stone surround, and another similar window further right. All three windows have hinges for external shutters. The building retains the remains of a first-floor string band and has three similar windows above. Attached to the southwest are outbuildings that feature two doorways; one has a massive lintel and jambs, while the other has a lintel and quoins. There is a small opening between these doorways with a stone lintel, and a single square opening above with stone quoins. The gable end of the building shows a lower roof line.
