Manor House

Manor House is a house built in the late 17th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble, featuring ashlar quoins and dressings. The roof is made of pantiles and has raised stone coped gables with ball finials, as well as an off-centre ridge stack made of brick with a stone base. The house has two storeys and cellars, comprising four bays. The entrance is an off-centre 19th-century panelled door, which has a plain stone surround with a keystone. To the left of the door are two-light and three-light cavetto mullioned windows with cornices, and to the right is a similar three-light window. Above the door, there is a 19th-century Brownlow shield and scroll set in a plain stone surround. The upper floor features three two-light cavetto mullioned windows set into the eaves. Throughout the house, there are iron frame casements. On the gable end facing the street, there is a single blocked 16th-century opening at first-floor level, above which is a slate plaque, likely from the early 19th century. This plaque displays paired lions, a greyhound, and a coronet representing the Brownlow arms, and it served as a gauge for a large water tank that was previously located in the roof and supplied several other houses in the village. Inside, the house features an inglenook fireplace with a chamfered stopped beam, as well as an original salt cupboard and pot hangers.
