Description

The Chestnuts is a farmhouse and conservatory dating from the 17th century, with later additions from the late 17th century and 19th century, as well as alterations in the 20th century. It is built of coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings, featuring stone coped gables, moulded stacks, and one moulded ridge stack on a pantile roof. The building has an L-plan that has been extended to form a T-plan. It is a single-storey structure with attics and has a three-bay front with quoins, which was later extended in the 17th century to create a four-bay front.

The entrance is off-centre, consisting of a four-panelled door with a plain overlight, framed by a stone surround and moulded cornice. To the right of the door is a three-light chamfered mullioned window, while to the left is a two-light chamfered mullioned window, and there is also a single three-light ovolo mullioned window. All three windows feature iron casements and moulded cornices. One quoin on the left is inscribed "1698 June HPB," and above it is graffiti depicting a hand. The roof includes three large dormer windows from the 20th century, each with sloping roofs. The rear elevation features additional ovolo and chamfered windows, and the interior contains plain chamfered beams.
