Description
The Old Rectory is a former rectory, now a house, built in 1834 by Cornelius Sherborne of Grantham, with 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed of ashlar stone and features stone coped gables and kneelers on the south side, a slate roof, a stone ridge stack, and a pair of diagonally set stone stacks that project from the front wall at the first floor level. It has a parallel range with a single-storey wing on the north side. The entrance front has two storeys, a plinth, and a first-floor band, with three bays. The central entrance features a "Gothick" traceried door and a single light window under a hood mould, flanked by a single light window to the left and a double light window to the right, all in Tudor style with glazing bar casements. Above, there is a central two-light window with a similar single light window to the left. To the right of the entrance is a corbelled chimney, just below which is a datestone marked "1834" and an inscription around a coat of arms indicating its construction by C. B. Oatley, Rector. The south front matches the styles of the entrance front, featuring similar single and two-light windows and a canted bay window. Inside, the rectory has shutters, plain moulded cornices, and simple decorative details in the ceiling corners. There is also a contemporary 'Tudor' stone fireplace with leafy spandrels and a fine swept staircase with plain balusters. According to information from the owner, a porch was removed, and the single-storey wing was reduced from two storeys by the Church Commissioners' Architect in the 1950s.
