Description

The Chestnuts is a late 18th-century brick house, partly pebbledashed, with a pantile roof. It has a rendered plinth, moulded wooden eaves, dentillated eaves at the rear, coped gables, two gable stacks, and stone cills. The house is two storeys high and five bays wide, forming an L-shaped plan. The central entrance is defined by a reeded timber doorcase with a fanlight and a moulded timber hood, now containing a 19th-century glazed door. To either side of the entrance are two glazing bar sashes with segmental heads. Above them are five glazing bar sashes with stone lintels. The right-hand gable features a single round-headed sash with Y tracery. On the rear, there are two glazing bar sashes with segmental heads, and above these, a single glazing bar sash. An 18th-century brick barn adjoins the rear wing, also with a hipped pantile roof. The barn is two storeys high with three windows. It has all 20th-century doors and window openings.
