Description

The Beckingham War Memorial is a war memorial unveiled in 1920. It is made of Portland stone and features a modest Latin cross set on a narrow shaft that rises from a square plinth, which stands on a square, three-step base. The south face of the plinth is inscribed with the words: "GIVING THANKS TO GOD AND IN MEMORY OF THE GALLANT MEN OF BECKINGHAM WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1919 THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE." The names of ten individuals who died in the First World War are listed on the west and east faces. Additionally, there is a stone plaque attached to the east side of the memorial, on the second step, commemorating one man who fell in the Second World War.
