Description
This pair of old cottages, located opposite the Smithy on Silver Street in Baumber, dates back to the 17th century, with some alterations and an addition from the 19th century. Originally constructed using mud and stud, they have been underbuilt in brick. The right half features a pantile roof, while the left half has a hipped corrugated iron roof, likely covering thatch. There is an off-centre axial stack, suggesting that the cottages were probably originally a single unit with a later two-bay extension on the right. The front is five bays wide and consists of a single storey with a garret, showcasing a dentillated eaves course on the left side. On the left, there is a planked door flanked by single glazing bar sash windows. To the right, there is a second planked door with a fixed glazing bar light to its left. All openings have segmental brick heads.
