Description

These are five almshouses built in 1727, with some 20th-century alterations. They are constructed of red brick and feature a pantile roof with stone coped gables and kneelers, along with two axial ridge stacks and a single ridge stack. The building is two storeys high and has an 11-bay front with a brick band at the first floor level.

The central doorway is flanked by single windows, with additional doorways and windows on each side. All doorways have segmental heads and panelled doors, with the left-hand doorway set in a small, gabled 20th-century porch that has a glazed door. The ground floor windows also have segmental heads and are fitted with 20th-century cross mullion casements, while the upper floor features six two-light casements.

Above the central doorway is an ashlar plaque inscribed with a dedication stating that "The Hospital and School were erected in the year 1747 by Jane Dymoke Widow of the Hon. Charles Dymoke of Scrivelsby Esq Champion of England and endowed by her will and a yearly salary to a School Master and Mistress for teaching all the poor children in the Parish of Hemingby to read write and work and with competent provision of clothing for six of the said children and for putting some of them Apprentices and also yearly allowance for four poor widows Inhabitants of the County of Lincolnshire is appointed in her will."
