Description
The Old Rectory, formerly known as Hemingby House, is a former rectory located on Main Street in Hemingby. It dates from the mid-18th century, with alterations and additions made in the early 19th century. The building is constructed of red brick and render, featuring ashlar dressings. It has a slate roof with ashlar coped gables and kneelers, along with a single ridge and three gable stacks. The structure has an ashlar plinth and consists of a double range, with the earlier range situated at the rear.
The garden front is two storeys high and includes two canted bay windows, each featuring a pair of double glazed doors and flanking glazing bar sashes on the ground floor, with three glazing bar sashes above. This front is accentuated by a central and two end rendered pilasters that support a deeply moulded cornice and a plain parapet above. The west front has a central doorway with a half glazed door and overlight, framed by a pilastered surround topped by an entablature. To the right of the doorway is a large glazing bar sash, and to the left are two plain sashes. Above, there is a central plain sash, with two further plain sashes to the left. Inside, the rectory features a stick baluster stair.
