Description
The Pigeoncote and walled garden at Gunby Park, dating from around 1700 with 18th-century garden walls, is an important historical structure. It is built from red brick with stone coping and features hipped plain and pantiled roofs, along with lead dressings and a timber lantern. The garden is three-sided and includes the pigeoncote in one corner and a gardener's hut in another.
The tall wall surrounding the garden is made of stone and tile, constructed in English bond with pilaster buttresses, and has three semi-circular headed gateways. The pigeoncote features a plinth, a plain band, and coved eaves leading to a plain tiled roof, which has a louvred lantern topped with a lead roof and a wrought iron weathervane. Inside the pigeoncote, there are two tiers of wooden flight holes beneath a fixed glazing bar light on the inner wall, and it still contains its original turntable and ladder.
