Description
Perkins Newsagents is a shop with accommodation above, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of colourwashed brick and features a slate roof with stone-coped gables, decorated eaves, and gable stacks. The building is three storeys high with a three-bay front.
The shop front, also from the early 19th century, includes an entrance to a through passage on the right, which has a semi-circular head and a moulded doorcase with a panelled soffit and a blind overlight. To the left is a deep-set shop doorway with an overlight and double three-quarter glazed doors that have semi-circular traceried heads, along with an outer semi-circular head featuring tripartite foliate motifs in the soffits. This doorway is flanked by rectangular projecting shop windows, each containing three lights and single lights, all adorned with semi-circular traceried heads.
Additionally, there is a doorway leading to a restaurant at No. 6 on the left, which has a semi-circular head, a moulded doorcase, a panelled soffit, a plain fanlight, and double panelled doors with semi-circular heads on the upper panels. A continuous moulded entablature with panelling runs across the full width of the shop front. Above, there are three plain sash windows, each with segmental heads.
