Description
This is a two-storey newsagents building featuring a rendered gable on the right side, showcasing a mixture of applied black and white decoration alongside original exposed truss work. Above a modern shopfront, there is a two-light casement window. The slate roof rises to the left over a rounded corner, which is constructed of whitewashed brick with applied timber. There is a curved six-pane sash window above a curved 19th-century three-light shop window with end pilasters. A diamond leaded window is located at the rear of this corner block, which connects to a likely 17th-century cross range that has a gable facing Chapel Street Square. The wall post is visible on the left, as are the bases of the principal rafters. On the first floor, there is a small pane sliding sash window, and below it, a broad modern window and a modern door. The right side of the building is made of rubble.
Inside, the tie and collar beam roof trusses are exposed, featuring massive uncut and undulating purlins and queen struts. The purlins appear to have been reused, as indicated by the lower tenon sockets. There is one uncut beam in the main ground floor room.
