Description

The Post Office is a building constructed between 1929 and 1930 by H T Rees for the General Post Office. It is made of red brick with painted render and features a plain tile roof with two brick chimneys. The building has two storeys and includes a moulded plinth and an exposed brick plinth.

The street-facing side has five windows and a central doorway. The wooden door surround is adorned with panelled pilasters that support console brackets and a flat hood, which has a segmental fanlight above it. On either side of the doorway, there are single square lamps mounted on iron brackets. To the left, there is a small notice board framed in moulded wood with a segmental pediment. Flanking the notice board are two segment-headed cross windows, which have moulded and decorated transoms and sunk panels below. Above these, there are five cross casement windows with flat heads, and further up, three flat-headed dormer windows with two-light casement windows.

The side returns of the building feature two windows with similar designs. Inside, the main sales hall retains its original plasterwork, along with original wooden counters, doors, and doorways.
