Description

J.A. Kerr Wine Merchant is a shop with accommodation above, dating from the late 18th century to the early 19th century. It is constructed of red brick and features a pantile roof that is hipped to the south, with moulded brick eaves and a single hip stack. The building has three storeys and a basement.

The south front has two bays, while the west front has a single bay with a doorway located at the southwest corner. This doorway features a large overlight and a partially glazed door. To the left, there is an early 19th-century shop front that is flush with the wall, consisting of four lights with semi-circular traceried heads, along with two barred basement windows below. To the right, there is a three-light shop front, also flush with the wall, with three lights featuring semi-circular traceried heads. Below this is a single barred basement window and a doorway beyond, which has a moulded doorcase with a small bracketed hood, a blind overlight, and a panelled door.

On the west side, there is a single glazing bar sash window to the left, and on the south side, there are two glazing bar sashes to the east. Another single glazing bar sash is located above on the west side. All windows have wedge lintels and segmental heads. Above the doorway, there is a cornice with a broad chamfer that is pointed towards the top.
