Description
This is a shop with accommodation above, dating to circa 1830. It is located on Bridgewater Street in Lymm. The front facade is lined with render on brick or stone and has a grey slate roof. The rear section is constructed of coursed sandstone. The building is in an early 19th century Jacobean style, with two storeys and a basement. The main rectangular portion has a gable facing the road, and a narrower wing to the right also has a gable to the road. A recessed rear portion projects to the left. The front features a plinth, a plain band at first floor level, coved plaster verges and eaves with plain bargeboards. The shop door is part-glazed with three panels, set within a chamfered Tudor archway. A four-light canted bay window, with a single glazing bar in each light, is located on either side of the doorway, and is covered by a shallow hipped roof. The upper storey has a three-light small-pane window set beneath a label. In the right wing, a four-panel door is situated under a plain fanlight, within a chamfered Tudor arch, with a four-pane casement above, set within a stop-chamfered opening. The stone rear portion has eaves that are less hollow than those of the front, a porch in the corner with a Tudor lintel, a moulded parapet, and two small-pane casements to the side, each set beneath a label. The basement contains an early 19th century bread-oven and a slopstone.
