Description

This property comprises a row of six houses numbered 17 to 21, Mill Bank, originally known as Dane Bank House. The building dates from the late 18th century and has undergone internal alterations and modifications to the rear. It is constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with a sandstone plinth and a stone band at the first floor level. The roof is covered with grey slate.

The front facade presents a symmetrical arrangement with a T-shaped design and a rear wing. The central section features three windows beneath a pediment gable with a moulded stone cornice, flanked by recessed wings each containing a recessed, two-story bay window. A Roman Doric portico of red sandstone is attached to the front. The main entrance consists of double, three-panel doors, with glazed upper panels, and a plain semi-circular fanlight, embellished with metalwork of a later date. The windows are small-pane sashes.

The left side of the three-story rear wing includes a three-panelled door set within a Roman Doric stone case. Above the door is a basket-arched landing window, containing a recessed shaped sash topped with stone pads and a key. Further to the rear, a three-story brick bow window features triple sashes separated by half-columns, with quarter-pilasters in the corners of the lower and middle storeys, and a six-pane sash in the upper storey. The interior has been altered during conversion to flats and a maisonette, and was not inspected for listing purposes.
