Description

No. 1 New Road is a house dating from the early 19th century, with gothic features added around 1830. It is built of pebble-dashed brick and has grey slate roofs. The building is L-shaped, featuring modillion open-pediment gables and modillion eaves. There are some labels above the window openings. The door, located at the angle of the L, and the windows in the left end gable have been altered. The front gable on the right has near-flush 12-pane sash windows and is part of a nearly symmetrical terrace of Georgian vernacular cottages, which includes Nos. 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11 New Road. This house is listed for its group value only. The interior has not been inspected.
