Description

This is a terrace of five cottages located on The Grove, built in the early 19th century. The cottages are constructed of brick, which has been painted white, and have grey slate roofs with flush gables. There are three brick ridge chimneys. The front doors each have six fielded panels and a semi-circular fanlight, although the fans vary: Nos. 5 and 9 feature looped radial bars, while No. 11 has a brought-in radial-bar fan. Nos. 5, 7, 9, and 11 each have a single 16-pane recessed sash window on each storey, each window set beneath a wedge lintel. The doorway to No. 13 has been partially blocked and replaced with a fixed window of nine panes, which is sympathetic to the original design. The entrance to No. 13 has been relocated to the gable end wall. The interior of No. 5 is largely unaltered, featuring a dogleg staircase with a turned newel post at the foot, a plain six-panel door to the parlour, and other boarded doors. The remaining cottages have undergone some internal alterations.
