Description
No. 8, known as Foster & Son, is a shop with living accommodation above, dating from the late 18th century to the 20th century. The building is constructed of colourwashed, rendered brick with painted stone dressings. It features a concrete tiled roof with stone coped gables that have kneelers, as well as moulded wooden eaves and gable stacks.
The structure is two storeys high with an attic and has a five-bay front. To the right, there is a doorway leading to a through passage, which has a segmental head, keystone, and imposts. The early 19th-century shop front to the left has been modified in the 20th century and includes a central doorway with a semi-circular head, decorative spandrels, and a moulded, panelled doorcase. There is also an inner doorway with an overlight and a glazed door.
On either side of the shop front, there are rectangular shop windows with flanking panelled pilasters and panelling below. Above, there are five 20th-century casements with mid-19th-century moulded architraves. The building is topped with two flat-headed dormers that contain two-light casements.
