Description
The Red Lion Hotel is a posting house that has been converted into a hotel. It dates from the late 17th century, late 18th century, early 19th century, and 20th century. The building is constructed of colourwashed and rendered brick and features a steeply pitched plain tiled roof with moulded wooden eaves, a single ridge stack, and gable stacks. The structure is L-shaped, with two storeys and an attic. The south front has five bays, including a carriage archway to the right with a rectangular wooden lintel. To the left, there are two shallow late 18th-century bow windows, each with flanking pilasters, three plain sashes, and a moulded entablature. Above, there are five glazing bar sashes with moulded architraves. The roof features three gabled dormers with bargeboards, applied timber frame decoration, and three-light casements. The north-west range at the rear is older but has been thoroughly remodelled in the 19th century.
