Description

16 West Street is a terraced house built around 1830, with some alterations made in the 20th century. The building is constructed of orange brick and features an ashlar-coped gable with two gable chimney stacks. The roof is covered with 20th-century concrete tiles and the house stands three storeys tall.

The front of the house has a four-window facade. The doorway is off-centre and features a six-panel door with an overlight, framed by a wooden surround that includes side pilasters and a cornice at the top. To the left of the door are two glazing bar sash windows, while to the right is a single similar window. Above the door, there is another off-centre sash window, flanked by single sashes on either side. The upper floor has three smaller sash windows arranged in a similar pattern.

The rear of the house is rendered and painted, with various sash windows on two floors. Inside, there is a Minton tile entrance hall floor and a single flight staircase with a return, featuring stick balusters and turned newel posts. The dining room includes an original white marble chimney-piece, and many rooms retain original panelled doors with wooden surrounds. The original exposed roof timbers are visible in the roof, showcasing purlins and original rafters.
