Description
Norwood House is a terraced house located on Great Norwood Street in Cheltenham, built around 1830-1840. The building features ashlar stonework over brick, with stucco on the right return and rear, and has a renewed tile roof with two stacks at the right end and an iron balcony.
The house stands three storeys tall with a shallow basement and has two windows on the first floor. Architectural details in ashlar include rustication on the ground floor that extends into voussoirs above the door, a band, frieze, and cornice on the second floor, topped with a blocking course. The first and second floors have 6/6 sash windows, with the first-floor windows being taller. The ground floor features a tripartite window with 1/1 sashes, all set in plain reveals and with sills, except for the first-floor windows. There is a 20th-century window in the basement. The entrance, located to the left, consists of a five-panel door with a lattice frieze and a fanlight adorned with decorative glazing bars.
The interior has not been inspected. A notable feature is the continuous balcony on the first floor, which has a scrolled heart motif. Norwood House is part of a distinguished street lined with mostly 1830s and 1840s terrace houses.
