Description
Vine Cottage is a 17th-century cottage located on Main Street in Newtown Linford. It is constructed from granite and slate rubblestone, featuring a stone plinth and timber framing. The cottage has a thatched roof with end stacks and a ridge stack on the front wing. It stands at one and a half storeys tall, with wings that project to the front and rear of the main cruck-framed range.
The left end wall of the main range is made of stone and contains a large inglenook fireplace inside. There are two one-light casement windows and two pairs of cruck blades, one visible inside and the other on the right end, where there is also an attic with a two-light casement window. On the front left of the main range, there is a door and a one-light casement window, followed by two one-light casements on the side of the front wing. The front wing features a brick-coped gable with visible principal rafters, and there are three-light casements on both floors, along with a two-light casement on the right side of the wing and another two-light casement on the right front of the cruck range.
The rear wing may be a later addition, with part of the wall made of stone and remnants of timber framing on a stone plinth. It includes casements, doors, a small outshut, and a 20th-century one-storey extension at the rear right corner.
