Description
The Thatched Cottage is a cottage dating from the 17th century or earlier, constructed using cruck framing. One of the two cruck trusses is visible in the east wall. The building features coursed rubble sandstone and brick, topped with a thatched roof and a lower slate roof. It has brick gable end stacks and is a single storey plus attics.
On the south elevation, there is a coped wall to the left with a 20th-century window that has a stone lintel with an ogee arch cut into it. To the right, there is a 20th-century casement window with leaded lights, a doorway with a plank door, and another 20th-century casement window. There is a lower wing to the east that includes a dormer window.
Inside, the cottage has a stone flagged floor and a large stone fireplace on the west wall, which is partly blocked, along with a blocked doorway next to it. A winder staircase is located against the east wall. The first floor features a fireplace on the west side with an interesting squinch detail that supports the purlin.
