Description
Stainsby Mill is a watermill that was restored to working order between 1991 and 1992. It dates from the late 18th century and is constructed of coursed sandstone and ashlar. The building features a stone slate roof with stone coped gables and moulded kneelers, and it is two storeys tall, built into the hillside.
The north elevation consists of two bays. There is a doorway with a chamfered surround and a plank door, flanked by two-light recessed and chamfered mullion windows, with the left window missing its mullion. Above, there are two similar windows that are not symmetrically placed. A gabled roof dormer is present. The lower bay on the left has a single light window with a recessed and chamfered surround on each floor. The gable end facing the road features an upper doorway with a chamfered surround. Additionally, a gabled wing running south has an upper doorway with a square section surround.
