Description
The Grange is a house that dates from the 17th century, with later alterations in 1724 and the 19th century. It is built from coursed squared sandstone with sandstone dressings and quoins, featuring stone slate and machine tile roofs. The gables are stone coped with moulded kneelers, and there are stone and brick gable stacks with shafts arranged in pairs and triplets, which have chamfered angles and dentil cornices.
The house has two storeys and a double-fronted south elevation that includes a plain first floor band and chamfered quoins at the southeast corner. An off-centre doorway features a 20th-century glazed door and a timber latticework porch. This doorway is flanked by paired 2-light windows with round-arched lights and glazing bar sashes. Above, there are two 2-light square section mullion windows.
The east elevation has two gabled bays with chamfered quoins running down the middle. It features a central 20th-century glazed porch, flanked by two round-arched windows with bead moulded ashlar surrounds and glazing bar sashes. Above these, there are two 2-light square section flush mullion windows with glazing bar casements, also with bead moulded ashlar surrounds and basket arches. A moulded rectangular date panel, now illegible, is located above the left gable.
On the north elevation, there are two glazing bar sashes on each floor, set in plain ashlar surrounds. To the west, there is a cement rendered range that has plain 2 and 3-light casements.
