Description
Conduit House, located south of Hardwick Old Hall, was built around 1587-90 for Bess of Hardwick. It is constructed from sandstone ashlar and has a square plan. The building features a chamfered plinth and a string course at the top of the base. Each side has a large round arch, with the angle piers designed with simple capitals and bases. The north and south sides have walls that rise to half height, and there is a moulded cornice along with a blocking course at the top.
