Description
The ruins of Heath Old Church are fragmentary remains of a church that dates from the 12th century and later. Constructed from sandstone rubble with sandstone dressings, the church features a two-cell plan that was likely remodeled into a chapel with a porch in the 19th century, oriented north to south. The structure is roofless, and the walls are incomplete. Notable features include the lower parts of the jambs of a north window, stone seats in the porch, and the remains of jambs for a south doorway that display very weathered 12th-century chevron decoration. The southeast jamb survives to about four feet, while the southwest jamb reaches only about two feet. The outer doorway jambs are adorned with roll moulding, and dressed quoins are present as well.
