Description

Garden Cottage is a 17th-century cottage located in Drayton St. Leonard. The building has a painted brick plinth and is largely timber-framed with rendered infill, topped with a thatched roof. A brick stack rises from the centre of the ridge. The cottage follows a two-unit lobby-entry plan and is single-storey with an attic. It has a two-window front. A plank door is centrally located, sheltered by an open thatched porch. To the left of the door is a four-light leaded casement window, and to the right a three-light leaded casement. Two swept dormers are visible in the roof, each containing a three-light leaded casement. Single-storey wings extend to the left and right of the main cottage. The right wing is timber-framed with rendered infill and a hipped thatched roof, featuring two two-light leaded casement windows. The left wing is a mix of brick and timber framing, with a stone rubble end wall incorporating ashlar dressings. It has an old plain-tile roof and a stone end stack. Inside, there are open fireplaces on the ground floor, and chamfered spine beams are also present on the ground floor.
