Description
Easton House is a house dating from 1907, designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens in a late 17th-century style. It is constructed of red brick with plain tile hipped roofs. The roofs have two brick ridge stacks built into the pitch, and an external stack to the west featuring decorative brickwork. The brick quoins extend upwards as first and second-floor bands. The house is arranged in an irregular L-plan, with a south elevation of two, three, two, and then half-H plan bays. The ground floor of the south elevation has six segmental arched wooden cross windows. Above these are six two-light casement windows, each under a flat arch. Glazed doors are set within the return walls of the projecting ends, each with a keyed brick lintel. The east elevation mirrors the south, with two, two, three, two and then half 'H' plan bays. The ground floor has seven cross windows, plus three on the return walls, and the first floor has nine two-light casements, plus three on the return walls; all windows have square pane leaded lights and wrought iron casements. The north-west elevation is irregular, forming the inner side of the 'L' and mainly featuring first-floor casement windows, with two two-light and a three-light dormer. Single-storey service rooms and outbuildings are located to the north, arranged around a courtyard. A round-arched gateway is situated to the west, with a gate featuring a quatrefoil window and elaborate wrought iron hinges. The interior has been altered; the ground floor features several plain, moulded stone chimneypieces. A cupboard, originally from the butler’s pantry, is located in the sitting room. There is a broad first-floor corridor with a moulded round arch on one side, and four further moulded stone chimneypieces are present.
