Description
The Highways is a house located on High Street in Repton, dating from the late 17th century, with early 19th-century and 1927 alterations. It features a timber frame with brick infill and brick construction, topped with a plain tile roof that has brick ridge and gable stacks. The building is two storeys high, with the east elevation displaying exposed box framing in two bays, featuring tension braces and a link panel near the former central stack. There is an additional brick bay to the left.
At the junction of the two sections, there is a doorway with a moulded surround and a plank door, topped with a 20th-century gabled hood. To the left of the door is a 2-light casement window, while to the right are two 2-light casements, with one similar window above. The roof has three 20th-century gabled dormers. The north gable end shows exposed box framing with numbered timbers and has a weatherboarded gable. The framing is also visible on the west side but is partly obscured by the 1927 north wing, which is not of special interest. Inside, the house features exposed beams and high-quality joinery from the 1920s.
