Description
Pollards Park House is a large house dating from 1903, designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens. It is a two-storey and attic building with roughcast walls and deep, plain tile roofs, including a stack on the west side. Wide, shallow leaded light window strips run below the eaves. The main wing of the house faces north, with lower wings arranged around a courtyard positioned in front. The north elevation of this chief wing has three two-light, hipped dormers. A two-storey gabled porch bay dominates the centre, featuring a ground floor door with a wide lintel above flanking single-light windows. Above the door is a two-light transomed and mullioned attic window with a dripstone. To the right of the porch, on the first floor, is a six-light transomed and mullioned window, and on the left, a single light window and a wide, mullioned window strip without transomes. All ground floor windows have dripstones. Lower east and west courtyard wings are present, the west wing having a partly bowed front. The courtyard entrance on the north side is flanked by battered walls with end buttresses and shallow pitched plain tile coping. The west courtyard wing connects at right angles to a taller wing running east-west; a brick chimney breast with a tall pair of brick stacks with moulded capping marks the junction between these wings. The north elevation of the east-west wing features a deep, plain tile roof with two large, hipped dormers, each with a four-light transomed and mullioned window. The ground floor elevation has a glazed, round arched opening, with a four-light window to each side. A tall brick stack is situated where this wing joins a further, single-storey wing on the west, which has a bowed end.
