Description

The gate house at Pollards Park House was built in 1903 to the design of Sir Edwin Lutyens. It originally comprised the south-easternmost bay and outshuts which were added later. The building is constructed of whitewashed brick with a deep, hipped tile roof, a stack to the left, and overhanging eaves. It features wide strips of shallow leaded light windows. A wide, central carriage arch provides access. The north-eastern elevation incorporates a large, hipped tile canopy supported by Roman tile brackets over the central carriage arch. Each side has a dormer with a hipped roof and overhanging eaves. Two multi-light windows are located to the left of the central bay on the ground floor, and a further window is on the right. The later bay at the south-east end has a ground floor outshut. The narrow north-western end elevation has ledged vehicular doors rising to eaves level, with toadstool-like tapering diagonal buttresses at the angles, each with a hipped tile roof. The south-western elevation has a large, half-hipped, cantilevered canopy over the central carriage arch. To the right is a later ground floor outshut, and a further bay at the south-east end with a hipped dormer above a further bay of the outshut on the ground floor. The building has group value with Pollards Park House.
