Description

The Dutch House is a house built in 1901 by Sir Edwin Lutyens. It features whitewashed brick and has a Mansard style roof with plain tiles. The building has a Y-shaped "papillon plan," with two wings that angle forward from the center. It is two storeys high and has patterned brick stacks, with one stack on the ridge of each wing and an additional stack at the rear. The front is articulated with pilaster piers, including one at the angles of the outer ends.

On the first floor, there is a central casement window with a gabled bell-cote above it, supported by braces. Each side wing has one first-floor window in its canted faces, and there is one window on each end between the angle piers. The ground floor features "cross" shaped windows. At the rear, there is a half-recessed oval porch with a half-glazed door. The front has a half-oval portico supported by two Doric columns on brick pedestals, which show marked entasis. The building has deep eaves and plinths at the ends of the wings, and dormer windows are present in the roof.

On the left-hand return front, there is a flat-roofed bay window on the ground floor. A single-storey wing extends to the rear. Behind the house, there is a service court around a rectangular yard, linked to the main house by walls with tile coping.
