Barn And Cowshed To West Of 83 London Road

This building is a threshing barn and attached cowshed located to the west of 83 London Road. It dates from the late 18th century, with alterations made in the early 19th century and some minor changes in the 20th century. The structure is built of red brick, featuring a plinth and gauged brick dressings on the barn. The roof is covered with plain tiles and has a sawtooth eaves band on the barn, while the cowshed has open timbers.

The barn is two storeys high and consists of three bays, while the cowshed is a single storey with six bays. The barn, which is positioned to the north, has an original full-height off-centre opening that has been partly filled in with an early 19th-century segmental arch set on stone impost blocks. Flanking this opening are rows of slit breathers, and above it are three early 19th-century circular pitching holes. The south gable wall of the barn features four lines of breathers, whereas the north gable wall has a full-height opening from the 20th century.

Attached to the south side of the barn is the cowshed, which is supported at the front by five brick columns and has a brick wall at the back with troughs attached. This building is included in the listing for its group value.
