Description
The Dog and Duck Inn is a public house that originated as a cottage and house, dating from the 17th century and early 19th century, with some minor alterations in the 20th century. The building features rendered brick with a slate roof, stepped eaves band, and rendered gable stacks on the early 19th-century section. The 17th-century part is likely covered in render, possibly hiding a timber frame, and has a steeply pitched plain tile roof with a large rendered gable stack on the north side.
The early 19th-century section is two storeys high with two bays, while the 17th-century section is a single storey with attics and also has two bays. The entrance consists of off-centre panelled doors with a plain overlight and a bracketed porch roof. To the north, there is a glazing bar sash window with panelled shutters, and to the south, a flat-headed 3-light small pane casement window. Above the entrance, there are two glazing bar sash windows and a bracketed wooden sign in the centre.
Attached to the south, the 17th-century part includes a flat-headed 3-light small pane casement window to the north and a small pane window to the south. Further south, there is a 20th-century low door, and above the 3-light window, there is a raking dormer with a 2-light small pane casement window. The interior of the 17th-century range has a very low ceiling with heavy beams and a large inglenook fireplace to the south.
