Description
The barn located to the west of Mansion House Farmhouse is a late 17th-century structure. It is built from coursed rubble coal measures sandstone and features partial quoining, plain gables, and an asbestos sheeted roof. The east elevation has two storeys and five bays, with a central full-height doorway that is topped by a cambered re-used timber lintel. There is an inserted square opening to the north of the doorway and several ventilation slits. At the south end, there is a small single-storey projection with a curved east end wall. The roof is supported by collar and tie beam trusses, which include angle struts, and has double purlins along with a ridge purlin. The flat oak rafters suggest that the roof may have been constructed using re-used timbers, possibly reversed crucks. The barn is listed for its group value.
