Description
Herdings Community Centre is a farmhouse that dates back to 1675 and incorporates an earlier structure. It has undergone alterations and additions in the 19th century and was converted and restored around 1970. The building features an internal cruck structure and is constructed of coursed rubble with ashlar and concrete dressings, topped with a concrete tile roof and a stone gable stack. The gables are coped with kneelers.
The building is two storeys high and has a three-window range. It has a double range plan with a rear wing. The windows are late 20th-century glazing bar casements set within 17th-century chamfered stone surrounds. A central two-storey porch includes a small three-light window, with a blank oval above it featuring a keystone. On either side of the porch are four-light windows. Below the porch, there is a chamfered doorway with a massive stone lintel and a 20th-century door.
To the left of the porch, there are a three-light and a two-light window, and to the right, another three-light window, all featuring drip moulds. There is a single-storey addition set back to the left, which has a three-light window with a concrete lintel. The left gable has a single window on each floor, with the lower window blocked and both having chamfered surrounds. The rear wing contains a single window with a chamfered surround and drip mould in the right return angle. To the right, there is a 20th-century single-storey addition.
Inside, the building has three pairs of heavy crucks with collar beams, neck pieces, and a ridge. The roof features a single purlin with wind braces.
