Description

Povey Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with some alterations made in the 20th century. It is constructed from coursed coal measures sandstone and features a shallow plain plinth, quoins, coped gables, stone ridge stacks, and a plain tiled roof. The building has an irregular plan, consisting of a T-shaped range at the west end, an intermediate linking range, and a gabled range at the east end.

The south elevation has two storeys and eight bays, with an advanced three-storey porch at the west end and an advanced gable at the east end. The windows were originally chamfer mullioned throughout, but most of the mullions have been replaced with 20th-century joinery. The west end bay features 20th-century windows, a gabled porch with a quoined door surround, a massive lintel, and a wide planked door with cover strips. There are stacked 2-light windows beneath dripmoulds, with the second-floor window being shallow. The intermediate range has wide 2-light flush mullioned windows, one of which is now blocked. At the east end, there is a 17th-century doorway with a chamfered surround and lintel, and above it, a 2-light chamfer mullioned window. There is also a blocked single light opening on the side wall of the advanced range at the west end. The west gable features stacked 3-light chamfer mullioned windows with plain dripmoulds.

Inside, the farmhouse has a massive stone arched hearth on the ground floor and a splat baluster stair in the rear stair tower.
