Description
Troway Hall is a house dating from the early 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the 20th century. It is constructed from coursed rubble coal measures sandstone and features quoins, coped gables, and both ridge and gable stacks, one made of stone and the other rendered, each topped with a moulded capping course. The roof is stone slated and hipped at the east end.
The south elevation has two storeys and attics, divided into three bays. There are two full-height gables and a lower advanced gable to the west. The taller gables feature 2-light chamfered mullioned windows in the attic, which are set beneath plain dripmoulds. The ground and first floors have 3-light windows, which originally had mullions that have since been removed, now replaced with 3-light 20th-century leaded casements within the old surrounds, also below plain dripmoulds. Two additional single light openings have been added to the ground floor.
There is a doorway on the east side of the east gable, featuring a massive lintel beneath a dripmould that extends from the adjacent window, with a 20th-century door. The lower advanced gable has a 2-light window, which also has had its mullion removed, and an inserted ground floor doorway.
