Description

Fold Farm Cottage is a house, originally two or three cottages, dating from 1669 and 1687, with 20th-century conversions. It is constructed of coursed rubble coal measures sandstone, set on a shallow chamfered plinth with quoins, and has plain gables, ridge and gable ashlar stacks, and a concrete tiled roof. The building follows a T-plan, featuring a projecting central gabled wing to the rear. The south elevation has two storeys and attics, arranged over seven bays. It includes 20th-century casements within surrounds of former single-light openings, and 2-light chamfer mullioned windows. Five 2-light and two single-light first-floor windows are united by a continuous hoodmould with label stops. The ground floor has two doorways: the western one has a quoined surround and chamfered lintel inscribed "R.E. 1687," and the eastern one has a chamfered lintel inscribed "R.T.1669." A 20th-century garage has been inserted at the east end. The rear elevation displays 2-light chamfer mullioned windows to the first floor and attic, and the projecting wing likely incorporates a stair.
