Description
This is an outbuilding located to the south-east of Hipper Hall, dating from the 17th century with alterations from the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed from coursed rubble gritstone, featuring quoins, plain gables, and a stone slated roof. The north elevation is a single-storey structure with overlofts and consists of four bays. The eastern bay has been altered to create an open space with inserted double doors. There are also two single doorways with plain planked doors. At the west end, there is a single-storey wing, along with two low lean-to structures on the south side wall.
Inside, the building has two cruck trusses, one of which is built into the west gable and includes tie beams and yokes that were formerly wind braced, supporting single side purlins and a diagonally set ridge purlin. A third truss features curved principals that are tenoned into the tie beam. The building is listed for its group value.
