Description
A row of three cottages dating to the late 18th century and mid 19th century, with later alterations. The cottages are built of coursed squared sandstone with gritstone dressings, and have plain tile roofs with stone ridges. Stone coped gables at either end feature moulded kneelers. Brick gable end stacks are present, the southern stack dating to the 19th century and having twin chamfered pots, with a similar stack to the south. Two brick ridge stacks are also present, the southern one being of a similar style to the southernmost gable stack.
The cottages are two storeys in height, with two bays per cottage. No. 28, to the south, was built in the 19th century in a 18th-century style. It has a central flush doorcase with a 20th-century door, a 2-light mullion window to the south, and a canted bay window to the north with a 2-light window to the front. Above, there are two 2-light flush mullion windows. No. 27 has a flush doorcase to the south with a 19th-century glazed and panelled door, and two 2-light flush mullion windows to the north with stone benches beneath. Above these are two similar windows. No. 26, to the north, has a flush doorcase, a 20th-century door, a 2-light flush mullion window and a single light window in a former flush doorcase, and a 20th-century window in a 18th-century opening. Above, there are two 2-light flush mullion windows. All windows are 2-pane casements, except for single-pane casements in No. 28. Attached to the extreme north is a single-storey barn with a door.
