Description
These are two attached cottages, located on Market Street in Abbotsbury and dating to the early 19th century. The cottages have walls of coursed rubble stone, using a mix of ironstone and limestone, and are topped with a slate roof featuring gable ends. Tall 19th-century brick stacks are visible at each gable, with decorative cappings. The cottages are two storeys high. Each cottage has windows; No. 6 has a 3-light wooden casement with glazing bars and dressed stone voussoirs, while No. 8 has a 4-light wooden casement of similar construction. A plank door, with a keyed stone lintel (inserted in the 20th century), is positioned approximately at the centre of the range for No. 6. No. 8 has a studded door with ornamental strap hinges, also a 20th-century addition, at its left-hand end. These cottages were originally part of a range of six cottages situated south-east of the local school.
