Description

Nos 38, 39, and 40, known as Nut Tree Cottage, are a row of three cottages likely built in the late 18th century. They are constructed from roughly cut and squared Ham stone with ashlar dressings, topped with a plain clay tiled roof that features stepped coped gables and brick chimney stacks. The cottages are two storeys high and consist of six bays in total.

On the ground floor, there are hollow-chamfered mullioned windows in chamfered recesses with labels, arranged between bays 1 and 2, 3 and 4, and in bays 5 and 6. All of these windows are three-light, rectangular-leaded with iron-framed opening lights. The first floor features three-light rectangular-leaded casement windows of an early pattern, each with a central iron-framed opening light.

No 40, located to the south, has a 20th-century fully-glazed door in a recess to the right of bay 2. No 39 has a boarded door to the left of bay 3, while No 38 features a boarded door between bays 5 and 6, both of which are also set in plain recesses. There is a lean-to extension against the north gable of No 38, which includes a small-pane casement window, along with a further extension to the rear. The south gable of No 40 is rendered and colourwashed, featuring 20th-century casement windows, and there are additional extensions to the rear. The interiors have not been seen.
