WALTON SK36NE WALTON BACK LANE 1264-0/6/133 (South side) 18/05/93 Farm outbuilding to the south-west of Spring House Farmhouse

Farm outbuilding: part cowhouse, part store. C17 or earlier, with part remodelling in late C19. Coursed rubble Coal Measures Sandstone and brick, with roof coverings of stone slate, pantile with stone slated eaves courses, and Welsh slate. The north-east elevation is of a single storey,with overlofts and 6 bays, the 2 north-western bays remodelled, and with an offshut at the north-west end. 3 plain doorways to the whole range, with plain planked doors. INTERIOR: The roof is supported by 4 cruck trusses, carrying a single back purlins and a ridge purlin, winch is set diagonally and is clasped by the cruck blades. The cruck trusses have wind braces, and all originally, had tie, collar, and yoke beams. C19 trusses have been introduced at the south-east end, and between the 2 cruck trusses within the remodelled 2 bays at the north-west end. These 2 bays are in separate ownership from the remaining 4 bays.
