Description

This is a late 16th-century farm outbuilding, with alterations and additions from the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of coursed squared Coal Measures sandstone with massive quoins, and has a corrugated sheeting roof. The north-east elevation is single-storey except at the south-east end, which has a raised floor. There are four bays, with a flat-roofed addition at the south-east end, three doorways (one now blocked), and three window openings, some with glazing bars. The window at the north-west end has a hopper opening.

The interior was originally wholly cruck-framed, and now retains two cruck trusses. It has a single purlin roof with a ridge purlin. The south-eastern truss is missing its tie-beam, and the north-western truss is missing its collar. Both trusses retain curved windbraces on the south-west side, which are face-halved and cross-lapped. The splay-scarf jointed purlins are notched into the backs of the trusses, and the ridge purlin sits on a plain table yoke. The cruck truss at the north-west end is a 20th-century replacement.
