Description

This is a milepost located at the front of the George Hotel on Church Street in Alfreton. It dates from the early 19th century and is made of cast iron. The milepost has a triangular section base with a sloping head, featuring a bead fillet along the edge and raised lettering. The west side is inscribed with "NOTTM 16 MILES," the east side reads "ALFRN O MILES," and the top is inscribed with "ALFRETON PARISH."
