Description
No 17 on Church Street is a house that has been converted into offices. It dates from the early 18th century and has undergone alterations and additions in the early and late 19th century. The building is constructed from red brick with stone dressings, a plinth, and quoins. It features a slate roof with stone ridge tiles, stone copings on moulded kneelers, and two large brick ridge stacks.
The house has three storeys and three bays. The central entrance has a moulded 18th-century doorcase with a half-glazed panelled door, flanked by plain sash windows in plain surrounds. On either side of the entrance, there are tripartite plain sashes. Above the entrance, there is a glazing bar sash window to the west, a central four-pane sash in a moulded 18th-century surround, and a plain sash window to the east. On the top floor, there are three 2-light flush mullion windows with casements.
At the rear, there is a large 19th-century extension. Inside, the building features an early 18th-century dogleg turned baluster staircase, 17th-century panelling in the central room on the first floor, and 17th-century panelled doors leading to the attic, along with raised and fielded panelled doors in other areas.
